Ezra Ereckson has been teaching art in Portland and Hillsboro public schools since 2006. Prior to teaching with HSD and PPS he worked in refugee resettlement in the Portland area. He has been a leader for equity, inclusion and anti-racism at the classroom, building and district levels.
Ezra’s interests and background include issues around immigration, acculturation and English language learning, the effects of popular culture and media images on students and educators, and the dynamics around creating effective equity teams and educator cohorts. He is adept with facilitating challenging conversations around race, dominant culture and equity in schools, and at helping educators discover their core beliefs and look more critically at their practice with the goal of shifting towards more culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy. He is passionate about helping to activate and amplify student voice and engagement in order to transform school culture.
